Description
As a lifelong learner, I profoundly grasp the importance of education because a well-earned education, together with your hard work and grit, can transform your life and career.
Please give me the permission to demonstrate how my educational journey unfolded.
From elementary school to world’s prominent universities, I have always graduated at the top of my class. I studied math and science at BAL, which during my time was taking the most successful students in a nationwide placement examination. I graduated as one of the top students in the “German Division” and was rewarded 14 times (out of 14 semesters) with certificate of appreciation, 2 times with certificate of merit, and once with the certificate of superior achievement while also acquiring “Deutsches Sprachdiplom” enabling straight entry into universities in German-speaking countries. Subsequently, I entered Istanbul Technical University to study mechanical engineering. Acceptance to ITU is highly competitive and meritocratic. To gain admittance to most of its departments, one has to score among the top 1% of the nearly 2 million applicants in the national university entrance examination. It is a university where it is hard to get admitted but also to graduate. I ranked 3rd in both mechanical engineering department and faculty (top 1.5%), made dean’s list on all 8 semesters and received the “Success Award” given by the “21st Century Culture and Education Foundation”. My senior thesis was “Computational fluid dynamics analysis of a single cylinder engine”. Having received a scholarship by “The Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey” while also having published for Springer Nature, I also got my MSc in mechanical engineering from ITU.
The culmination of my educational journey was getting accepted by Cornell, where I received a generous merit-based “Class of 2004 Scholarship” and completed my MBA with academic distinction award, focusing on technology, finance, and operations.
Although this journey may appear to be linear, it was hardly so. I have made many sacrifices and endured various hardships. I learned a lot throughout this journey and I am still learning by mentoring students who aspire to have a journey similar to mine.
